Like all another animal, the Boynton Beach opossum will not often show visible signs of sickness like cat or dog so you must have little knowledge about the symptoms. Following are the signs to look out for:



Rabies:
Rabies is highly infectious and contagious, also it is a very common disease among Florida mammals. It can be easily transferred from one mammal to another pet like cat or dog. It may sometimes transfer to yourself through following two ways:
• Directly contact with fluids
• Flea bits

Following are the symptoms of rabies which you may notice in Boynton Beach opossums:
- Anxiety
- Aquaphobia (Fear of water)
-Excessive salivation amounts
- Hallucination
- Inflammation of the biting area
- Tingling sensation
- Aggression
- Confusion
- Fever
- Insomnia
- Muscle atrophy
If you have noticed Florida opossum or any of the symptoms which have been mentioned here, you should stay away and give your animal a large space. You should immediately call the veterinarian. They are very well trained and they have proper knowledge how to handle such situation.

Tularemia:
Tularemia is a rare disease and it may be highly infectious. Also, it may damage a person’s body such as:
- Skin
- Lymph nodes
- Lungs
- Eyes

Following are most common symptoms:
- Painful lymph glands
- Swollen
- Skin ulcerations
- Headaches
- Fever
- Lethargy or Exhaustion
- Chills
Same as with Florida animals which are infected with rabies, you should not approach to those animals which are infected with these symptoms. You may get that disease as well and in some extreme cases, you have to take this situation with extreme caution.

If you have encountered with any opossum which is sick and has any disease, it is advisable to take following precautions:
- Ensure to wear footwear and protective gloves. That will help to minimize your direct contact with opossum
- Once you have handled Boynton Beach opossum, make sure to wash your both hands thoroughly.

However, if you don’t want to take this stress, it is advisable to report and call to animal control department. Officers from animal control will visit your place, inspect opossum and they will suggest next step to eliminate the opossum. They have proper training and equipment to handle any ill opossum.
